AEC Mission Statement

AEC’s mission, through its biennial Career Fair, is to educate and inspire today’s youth about the rewarding and exciting careers that are possible in the aviation and aerospace industries. AEC is a Long Island not-for-profit organization that strives to illustrate to students by example at these fairs that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are the pathway to lifetime careers in aviation and aerospace.

Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (S.T.E.M.) related industries such as aviation and aerospace are vital for our economy. The future of American economics rests on the success of S.T.E.M. education efforts in schools across our nation. The foundation presented in middle and high school is critical to interest levels, proficiency and test scores when preparing to enter college, trade schools and the work force.

The Aerospace Education Corporation believes that the key to success in fostering student interest in S.T.E.M. related programs rests in the hands of educators as well as currently employed aviation professionals. Exposure to successful professionals within these industries carries a tremendous weight, greatly impacting the quality and effectiveness of the options available to all students. The atmosphere and tone of the AEC Career Fairs directly influences the learning and retention process of students. Each student and teacher has the opportunity to meet with the speakers, mentors and professionals face-to-face. Student curiosity, interest and career consideration is a direct result of the combined efforts put forth at the AEC Career Fairs.

Long Island is seeing a shortage of students pursuing these S.T.E.M. fields. This will make it difficult for the industries to recruit the next wave of engineers, technicians and manufacturers.

While student interest in S.T.E.M is declining, the growth of the aviation and aerospace industries are skyrocketing. There is a great need not only for creative and skilled labor, but also a workforce that is culturally astute. AEC recognizes these trends and works to affect a change within these industries by supporting S.T.E.M education and introducing students to every opportunity available to them.

Aerospace Education Corporation has participated in education outreach initiatives impacting more than 7,500 middle and high school students and educators since 2006 and its reach continues to grow.
